Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to criticism for skipping Canada’s first game at the World Cup to attend the USA game, where his singer girlfriend was performing Katy Perry.
– Sometimes they call me the duties of a supportive boyfriend, but you know who I’m rooting for to win the Cup – Trudeau announced on social networks, adding a Canadian flag emoji.
Some Canadians, as it says BBCwere offended by the former prime minister’s decision, stating on social networks that it was a “slap to their country” or a “tasteless move”.
The former prime minister missed Canada’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto (1:1). Instead, he watched the USA beat Paraguay 4-1 in Los Angeles.
Perry participated in the opening of the first game of the World Cup in the USA by performing the song “Wonder”.
Trudeau and Perry have been linked by the media since July 2025, but officially confirmed their relationship with an Instagram post in December of that year.
The former Canadian prime minister was married to a TV presenter for 18 years Sophie Grégoirebut in 2023 they announced that they were separating. They have three children. Perry was married to an English comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012, reports BBC.
