Israel’s president mediates dispute between Netanyahu and justice accusing him of corruption, bribery and fraud

Israeli President Isaac Herzog wants to mediate problems with the Prime Minister’s Justice Benjamin Netanyahu. Indicted for 6 years on corruption charges, the Israeli prime minister may sign a plea deal, according to the Tel Aviv presidential spokesman.

Isaac Herzog has repeatedly said he sees a settlement between the parties as the “appropriate solution” to the lawsuit, the official said.

According to him, the president believes that before considering Netanyahu’s pardon, the efforts of an extrajudicial agreement must be exhausted.

Netanyahu has already rejected such an arrangement and insists he is innocent. Last November, he asked Herzog to pardon him, citing in his formal approach to the president the controversy caused in Israel of bribery, fraud and breach of trust charges.

And the American president Donald Trump repeatedly asked his Israeli counterpart to pardon the prime minister; after Herzog did not comply, the White House leader launched personal attacks against him.

According to the Israeli news site Ynet, Herzog has put his decision on the pardon on hold.
