Ismael Saibari scored 72 seconds into the game and Morocco beat Scotland 1-0 in the World Cup on Friday, keeping alive their chances of advancing to their second consecutive knockout round.
Saibari slipped between two Scottish defenders and Brahim Díaz sent him a long pass. Saibari controlled the ball and fired it hard into the top left corner of the goal, out of the reach of goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Morocco, which reached the semi-finals at the last World Cup in Qatar, drew 1-1 with Brazil in its first Group C match. Scotland, which has not progressed beyond the group stage in its eight previous World Cup appearances, beat Haiti 1-0 in its first match.
Saibari also scored Morocco’s goal against Brazil.
Morocco almost scored another goal in the 52nd minute, when Bilal El Khannouss’ header from an Achraf Hakimi corner was barely saved by Gunn.
Scotland had a chance in first-half stoppage time when Andy Robertson sent a cross to John McGinn, who failed to finish near the far post.
As Scotland pressed for an equalizer in the final minutes, Morocco had a couple of good chances to increase their lead, but both went wide.
