    Entities and personalities mourn the death of Alex Bueno and value his legacy in the Dominican songbook


    The death of Alex Bueno, which occurred on Thursday, June 18, 2026 in New York due to a brain tumor, generated a chorus of lamentations in the artistic world, as well as in Dominican society. Entities and personalities sent notes of condolence to his family and the Dominican people.

    The executive president of Banreservas, Leonardo Aguilera expressed his deep regret over the death of the renowned Dominican artist Alex Bueno, which occurred this Thursday, and expressed his solidarity with the family, friends and followers of the performer.

    Through a message published on her social networks, Aguilera highlighted the singer’s career and his invaluable contribution to national music, calling him one of the most representative figures of Dominican culture.

    “I deeply regret the death of Alex Bueno, one of the most emblematic voices of Dominican music,” he said.

    The banking executive highlighted that the artist leaves a legacy that transcends generations and that will remain an essential part of the country’s musical history.

    Aguilera affirmed that the talent and work of the performer will continue to live on in the collective memory of Dominicans.

    “His exceptional talent, his charisma and the artistic legacy that he built throughout his career will remain alive in the memory and hearts of several generations,” he said.

    The executive president of Banreservas also extended his condolences to the artist’s loved ones and offered a prayer for his eternal rest.

    “I express my most sincere condolences to his loved ones and I accompany them with respect, solidarity and prayer in this difficult time. May God grant him eternal rest and provide strength to his family,” he said.

    The Dominican Academy of Art and Entertainment Journalists (Adopae) expresses its deep regret over the death of the prominent Dominican artist Alex Bueno, which occurred this Thursday, June 18, 2026 in New York City, at 9:43 in the morning, as officially reported by his work team.

    The departure of Alex Bueno represents an irreparable loss for Dominican music and for the entire national and international artistic community. Owner of a privileged voice and a career that spanned more than four decades, the performer left an indelible mark on genres such as merengue, bachata, salsa and bolero.

    Affectionately known as “El Mayimbito” and “El Ruiseñor de la Sierra”, Alex Bueno conquered the hearts of several generations with memorable hits such as “Colegiala”, “Jardín Prohibido”, “Que Vuelva” and “Ese Hombre Soy Yo”, establishing himself as one of the most loved and admired artists in the Dominican Republic.

    During the last few months, the artist faced serious health problems derived from a brain tumor diagnosed in 2025, a condition that later evolved into a carcinogenic process. Despite the medical complications that kept him in intensive care, Alex Bueno fought with courage and faith until his last days.

    The Board of Directors and all members of Adopae join in the pain that overcomes his family, friends, colleagues and followers, raising a prayer for the eternal repose of his soul and expressing their most sincere condolences. We ask God to grant strength, comfort and resignation to his family in these moments of deep sadness.

    His artistic legacy will remain alive in the history of Dominican music and in the memory of millions of people who found in his songs a source of joy, inspiration and feeling.

    ACROART

    The Association of Art Chroniclers (Acroarte) expressed its deep regret over the death of the prominent Dominican merenguero Alex Bueno.

    In a note sent, Acroarte highlighted that the physical departure of Alex Bueno represents a great loss for Dominican music and for the entire national artistic industry “for his extraordinary talent, charisma and valuable contribution to merengue, bachata and other tropical genres.”

    Acroarte recalled that, throughout his successful career, the artist participated in various productions and that he was recognized for his outstanding musical work, including one of the highest awards granted by the Soberano Awards, since in 2019 he received the Soberano of Merit statuette, recognition that was accompanied by an emotional musical prepared in honor of his artistic legacy and his invaluable contribution to Dominican culture.

    Likewise, he was nominated on several occasions for his outstanding artistic career: “Alex Bueno leaves a musical legacy that will transcend generations. His unmistakable voice and his repertoire of hits are part of the Dominican cultural heritage.”

    “Alex Bueno’s voice, tuning and interpretive versatility have enriched our music for decades, adding value to the merengue of the golden years, bachata, salsa and bolero. Alex, in addition to having been a great artist, was also an excellent human being, sensitive, simple and very educated,” said Marivell Contreras, president of Acroarte.

    The Executive Committee and the members of the institution extend their most sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and followers, offering prayers for the eternal repose of his soul and for the strength of his loved ones at this difficult time.
