KUCHING (April 23): Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to assist a 32-year-old man who is bedridden following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained in a motorbike accident in February, by providing basic food aid to support his struggling family.
Philip Enang Christy Sayang suffered multiple severe injuries, including fractured ribs and femur, internal bleeding in the lungs and brain, as well as liver injuries, and was hospitalised for several months before being discharged earlier this month.
The organisation in a statement said the family living in Tabuan Jaya here is facing financial hardship as Philip, previously the sole breadwinner, is now unable to work and requires full-time care.
His wife Pranita, 32, who is unemployed, is currently caring for him and their two children aged five and 10.
According to Hope Place, Philip remains bedridden with limited movement, is unable to speak and is experiencing memory loss, while his right eye remains swollen weeks after the accident.
“Sometimes he recognises faces, but at other times he sees people as strangers,” Pranita told Hope Place.
Hope Place said the family is burdened by ongoing expenses including rent, utilities, schooling needs, adult diapers and special milk supplements required for Philip’s nutrition.
The organisation added that medical follow-ups are being supported through home visits by a Klinik Kesihatan doctor twice a week, while Philip’s uncle assists in transporting him to specialist treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
In addition to basic food aid, Hope Place is also providing special milk supplements and adult diapers to help ease the family’s daily burden.
The family has also applied for monthly financial assistance from the state Social Welfare Department.
Donations can be made via Hope Place’s Maybank account 511289001160 or S Pay Global QR code through its Facebook page. Receipts will be issued upon request.
