KAPIT (May 3): Steel jetties remain vital infrastructure for Sarawak’s riverine longhouse communities, as rural development continues to expand along major rivers.
In pointing this out, Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan said this could be seen from projects carried out in his constituency since 2022.
“Rural infrastructure development continues to progress steadily with the government actively implementing plans to build steel jetties for our riverine settlements.
“The visible results can now be seen along the Katibas and Rajang rivers, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving public facilities.
“Go and travel along the major rivers within my constituency, and you would notice the growing number of steel jetties that have been built since 2022,” he said when met during the recent inspection on a newly-completed steel jetty at Nanga Bani, Katibas River.
It is informed that this steel jetty was constructed under the Rural transformation Programme (RTP) for the constituency.
Adding on, Lidam pointed out that such progress also reflected the people’s strong support for the government’s development agenda, enabling the projects to be implemented successfully.
“More than 90 per cent of the infrastructure development targets for Katibas have been achieved so far.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Kapit MP and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi for his support and cooperation, together with the implementing agencies and the local communities in realising these projects.
“These achievements are not the result of one person’s effort, but the outcome of teamwork and strong community support,” he stressed.
Lidam said his team and the communities would continue to uphold the spirit of ‘Anang Rindang’ (Never Hesitate) in working together towards accomplishing the development goals.
The assemblyman also gave his assurance that all the development works would continue so that areas still lacking basic facilities would receive proper attention and support.
