SIBU (May 3): The construction of Surau Ansorullah in Kampung Saujana has received approval, addressing the growing need for a more organised and conducive place of worship in the Bukit Assek constituency.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the project is timely and long awaited by the local community, particularly with the area’s increasing population.
“On this occasion, I would like to express my highest appreciation and gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the funding application for the construction of this surau.
“His concern and support mean a great deal to the local community and reflect the government’s continued commitment to ensuring the welfare and needs of the people are always taken into account,” he told reporters during the handing-over ceremony of the approval notice for the new Surau Ansorullah project here yesterday.
Chieng said the new surau would provide more comfortable and proper facilities for worshippers, describing it as a significant milestone for the community.
He also thanked State Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee for his role in submitting the funding application.
“This clearly shows the spirit of cooperation and cross-constituency concern for the well-being of the people,” he said.
Chieng added that as an elected representative, he remains committed to serving all communities regardless of race or religion.
“The principle I uphold is that unity and harmony in a multi-racial society must always be preserved, and every citizen deserves fair and equitable attention and development.
“I believe Sarawak’s strength lies in our diversity.
“Only through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation can we continue to build a peaceful, harmonious and progressive state for all,” he said.
He expressed hope that the project would be implemented smoothly and completed on schedule so that residents can benefit from it as soon as possible.
Also present were Annuar, Islamic Affairs officer of the Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS) Sibu Ustaz Azhar Hipni, and Surau Ansorullah construction committee chairman Azman Leng.
