A Haitian woman and an employee at the Parliamentary Registration Department are facing charges following the discovery of fake voter’s cards last week.
Randy Powell Jr., 31, and Tashania Valsaint, 33, faced multiple charges stemming from their arrest on April 9, when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly-Burrows.
Prosecutors say Valsaint got a forged voter’s card with Powell’s help and used it to apply for an NIB smart card.
An NIB worker called the police after questioning the authenticity of Valsaint’s voter’s card.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of Powell, who was allegedly found with nine voter’s cards, three of them blank and sealed, and three transfer forms.
Valsaint and Powell are accused of conspiracy to commit fraud, while Powell is accused of abetting the possession of a forged document.
Powell faces additional charges of unlawful possession and possession of forged documents.
Valsaint is accused of possession of a forged document, uttering a forged document and attempted fraud by false pretenses.
They both pleaded not guilty, and bail has been set at $9,000 cash for Valsaint and $8,000 for Powell.
A trial is scheduled for August 14.
