Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries during the interactive dialogue on the annual report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of the second item of the work of the sixty-second session of the Human Rights Council.
In the statement, the GCC countries expressed their appreciation for the efforts made by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in carrying out his mandate, in light of the increasing challenges facing the United Nations system and their repercussions on international human rights mechanisms. They also renewed their condemnation of the continued grave violations against the Palestinian people, stressing the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, ensuring safe and sustainable humanitarian access, protecting civilians, and holding those responsible for violations committed in the occupied Palestinian territory accountable.
The GCC countries also condemned the recent Iranian attacks that targeted the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, stressing that they represent a blatant attack on the sovereignty of countries, the security of their peoples, and the integrity of their territories, and a violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the principles of good neighborliness. The statement stressed the importance of dialogue, international cooperation, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, as basic pillars for addressing crises and enhancing regional and international security and stability. It reiterated the support of the GCC states for international efforts aimed at strengthening the human rights system and enabling international mechanisms to carry out their mandates in an effective and balanced manner.
