The director of the National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG)Adolfo Fábrega, reported that the fuel subsidy program is already registering significant progress at the national level one day after its implementation.
During the weekly conference of President José Raúl Mulino, Fábrega detailed that more than 33,000 subsidized fuel deliveries have been made and that at least 33,289 vehicles have been approved after completing the registration process on the platform. Panama Connects.
He explained that the system not only includes registration, but also the validation of the beneficiaries, verifying that the vehicles are safe and sound with the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT)as well as the identity of the drivers. He added that the same vehicle can register more than one driver, all of whom are eligible to access the benefit.
The official pointed out that, although in the first days there were some technical problems, these have already been corrected and currently the registration process is more agile, with more than 90% of applications approved.
Likewise, he indicated that the subsidy establishes a weekly consumption limit that varies depending on the type of vehicle, such as taxis, collective buses or school transportation.
However, he acknowledged that complaints have been received about these limits, because they are defined in liters and not amounts, which can generate variations depending on the fuel station.
In that sense, he announced that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) is evaluating issuing a new resolution to adjust the subsidy to a system based on amounts, in order to improve its application and guarantee that transportation rates are not raised.
This program, which currently benefits selective, collective and collegiate transportation, will be expanded starting this Friday to include artisanal fishing and food cargo transportation.
