Among the publicly mentioned names is that of US President Donald Trump. Leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan claim to have submitted his nominations. However, the committee reminds that the procedure is strictly confidential for a period of 50 years and there is no official confirmation. It is important to note that the nomination itself does not mean the support of the jury.
Other popular names in the public sphere include Yulia Navalna – wife of the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Papa Leo, as well as the Sudanese volunteer organization Emergency Response Rooms.
Along with the announcement of the number of candidates, the secretary of the committee expressed serious concern about the condition of the 2023 prize winner, Narges Mohammadi. According to her relatives, she is in prison in Iran, and her health is deteriorating after suffering a heart attack. Her case is attracting growing international pressure for her immediate release.
This year’s laureate will be announced on October 9, and the traditional award ceremony will take place on December 10.
