Doina Pană, former Minister of Waters and Forests, suspects that the reason why she was poisoned with mercury is the position taken towards the wood mafia. She detailed on Sunday, May 24, how she accused a close collaborator of the repeated poisoning. “I was very irritated by the measures I took in 2014 and 2017. Of course, I managed to unblock something that had been blocked on purpose,” said Doina Pană.
Former Minister of Water and Forests in the Governments Mihai Tudose and Victor PontaDoina Pană, says that the Austrian company Schweighofer, which carried out illegal deforestation, would have had the most to gain from her removal from office.
“It was a company that made a huge loss, which is already famous because it also modified Forestry Code. They have developed huge production capacities relying on timber from Romania, because there was a 10-year ordinance in place, in 2014 it expired, which was in good faith when it was given, that we should not export logs. That is, whoever comes and processes the wood must be provided with a mandatory amount of wood. What more does he want to bid on. This company is the Schweighofer company, which claimed that they had 30% of the wood on the market at that time, but they had 30% of the total wood. That is, out of 18 million cubic meters legally cut per year, they used 6 million cubic meters, but they only used resinous, of which they only had 9 million”, Doina Pană explained to CNN’s Antena3.
Asked if the Austrian firm was behind the incident in which she was poisoned with mercury, the former minister said she only suspected them.
“No, I’m not directly accusing anyone, but I can’t help but suspect them, because they had the biggest damage (following the measures adopted as minister, no),” she explained. Doina Pană stated the “Forest Radar”, a system designed to follow the route of the wood from the forest to the final recipient, which is under control STSand “the 112 system for timber transport, so that people, tired of seeing so many transports devastation of forests, call 112 and signal.”
Doina Pană says that she was poisoned with fruit juice
The former minister claims that the moment she gave up making herself a fresh fruit juice in the morning could have been her fate. She agreed to have a close associate prepare it at the Ministry of Water and Forests headquarters.
“Then all I could think about was the juice and I said, ‘Only you could.’ And he didn’t answer anything”, said Doina Pană.
“I was very irritated by the measures I took in 2014 and 2017. Of course, I managed to unblock something that had been blocked on purpose,” the former social-democratic minister also said.
