KUCHING (June 13): A two-day enforcement operation by the Sarawak Immigration Department saw the arrest of 37 immigrants here.
In a statement, the department said those detained were all found to have either overstayed in the country or not possess valid travel documents.
“The operation from 9am on June 11 to 4am on June 12 was conducted in Kuching, Samarahan, and Lundu, targeting 13 locations where foreign nationals are known to gather.
“The areas included Kota Sentosa, Bintawa, Samariang New Township, Tabuan Jaya, Kota Samarahan, Lundu, and Pending, covering online gambling premises, restaurants, rented accommodation, car wash premises, factories, and entertainment centres,” it said.
The department said in total, 122 immigrants were inspected for possible violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Those detained are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Act.
