The announcement of a collaboration between PSD and AUR to submit a joint motion against the Bolojan Government triggered a wave of harsh reactions on the political scene. While the PNL leaders accuse Sorin Grindeanu of “officializing the lie” and rule out a new coalition with the former governing partner, the PSD claims that the approach is a pragmatic one, aimed at protecting the Romanians and forcing the PNL to propose another prime minister.

Leaders of the National Liberal Party reacted on Monday, after PSD and AUR officially announced the steps to submit a motion of censure against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan, accusing Sorin Grindeanu of contradictions in his political statements.
Motreanu: Today’s alliance confirms Grindeanu’s permanent lie
The first vice-president of the PNL, Dan Motreanu, claimed that the leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, would have repeatedly contradicted previous statements regarding a possible collaboration with AUR.
“PSD formalized its collaboration with AUR, announcing the submission of a motion of censure against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan. Sorin Grindeanu has repeatedly claimed that he will not collaborate with AUR. Today’s alliance confirms Grindeanu’s permanent lie”Dan Motreanu sent on Facebook.
He also conveyed that the party will no longer form a coalition with the PSD if the social democrats vote a no-confidence motion against the Government.
“The PNL has unequivocally conveyed that it will no longer form a coalition with the PSD if this party votes a motion of no confidence against the Government. If the PSD-AUR alliance has enough votes to bring down the Government, then it is natural for it to also assume the responsibility of governing”. Motreanu said.
Falca: If the government falls through an AUR-PSD motion, it remains to create a coalition that was excluded by the PSD
And MEP Gheorghe Falcă harshly criticized the PSD-AUR joint initiative, stating that it confirms a political rapprochement between the two parties. He also mentioned the statements made by Grindeanu in Brussels.
“We must remember that Mr. Grindeanu came to Brussels to guarantee that they would not collaborate with AUR… the world did not really believe him, and now there will be a confirmation of Mr. Grindeanu’s collaboration with AUR” said Falca la Digi 24.
In his opinion, a possible fall of the Government would open up complicated political scenarios: “If the government falls through an AUR-PSD motion, all that remains is to create a PSD-AUR coalition, a coalition that a few months ago was excluded by the PSD”.
Ciucu: “It seems to me the height of irresponsibility”
For his part, Ciprian Ciucu, first vice-president of PNL and mayor of the Capital, categorized the approach as right “the height of irresponsibility”emphasizing that the initiators of a motion have the obligation to also propose a alternative government.
“It seems to me the height of irresponsibility. Whoever makes a majority to overthrow a government has the responsibility to form another government in its place”, stated Ciucu.
He also reiterated the liberals’ firm position towards the social democrats: “PNL will not make another coalition with PSD”.
Barna accuses PSD of playing a double game between Europe and AUR
Harsh criticism comes from USR. Dan Barna accuses PSD of “hypocrisy”, claiming that the party promotes social democratic values at the European level and rejects the extreme right, while domestically it would collaborate with the AUR. He warns that such rapprochement risks affecting Romania’s pro-European direction, describing the scenario as “a road that leads to the pit”.
“PSD hypocrisy: married to the European Socialist Party in Brussels, but with AUR’s mistress in Bucharest”, wrote Barna, in a harsh message in which he criticizes the decision of the social democrats to support a censure motion alongside the AUR.
Gheorghe Piperea, after the PSD-AUR motion: “I remain skeptical, but there is good news”
On the other hand, AUR MEP Gheorghe Piperea welcomed the submission of a PSD-AUR joint motion, but declared himself reserved regarding the consistency of the social democrats. He criticized the fact that the PSD did not previously support similar initiatives of the AUR, accusing the party of helping to maintain the current government.
“A joint censure motion between AUR and PSD is being submitted against Bolojan. Let’s hope that the embarrassing tango danced by PSD is over, which should have voted for at least one of the 5 censure motions submitted so far by AUR, but preferred to ensure Bolojan’s survival in the destruction of the economy and the cohesion of Romanian society. I remain skeptical, but good news is good news. I also hope that PSD does not (be forced to) vote for a Bolojan II government. Come Liberation!”, wrote Piperea, on FB.
Zamfir: PNL to give another prime minister
The PSD senator, Daniel Zamfir, spoke about “pragmatism” when he was asked about the approach made by the social democrats with AUR.
“The PSD option is to maintain the current coalition, of course with the PNL option to appoint a new prime minister”said Zamfir.
Florin Barbu rejects the scenario of a PSD-AUR government
Florin Barbu, former Minister of Agriculture, declared that there is no question of a PSD-AUR government, the collaboration strictly targeting the censure motion against the Executive led by Ilie Bolojan.
“It’s about a motion. We’re not talking about forming a government with AUR. It’s about a motion of censure. And if this decision is made in the Social-Democratic Party and it’s a common thing on this motion, I have no problem, I’ll vote for this motion”said Florin Barbu.
According to him, at this time “any Romanian who voted for a political party must be protected. And the Social Democratic Party does that, it protects Romanians”.
Soșoaca: “They showed that they are together!”
The President of SOS Romania, MEP Diana Iovanovici-țoșoacă, accused, on Monday, that the censure motion against the Bolojan Government was intended to eclipse his political formation, stating that AUR is the “PSD child”.
“The ASDUR, AUR-PSD coalition, which I have been talking about for months and for years I have been telling you that AUR is PSD’s child. Because I announced that SOS Romania will collect signatures today, April 27, 2026, when we submit the motion, PSD and AUR decided to show that they are together, lest they hear from SOS Romania and Diana Șoșoacă! Exactly what I expected! Once again I spoiled them plans! How can they not lift my immunity and put me in prison, when since I’ve been in politics, I’ve ruined all their schemes”wrote Diana Sosoacă on her Facebook page.
Abrudean, about the PSD-AUR motion: “Parliamentary arithmetic gives them an advantage”
The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, commented on Monday the announcement regarding the submission of a censure motion supported by PSD and AUR, stating that “heparliamentary rhythms favor them” on the initiators and that the approach confirms a political collaboration already in the making between the two formations.
PSD and AUR submit a joint motion against the Bolojan Government: “Our goal is early elections”
“Today, through this announcement, this PSD-AUR collaboration is formalized”, Abrudean stated.
He rejected the scenario of internal betrayals at the vote, claiming that he does not believe that PNL MPs could support a motion directed against their own prime minister, Ilie Bolojan.
“I don’t think there will be PNL colleagues who will vote a no-confidence motion against the president of the National Liberal Party, who is also the prime minister“, he said.
Referring to the possible reconfiguration of the political scene, Abrudean argued that if the PSD voted against its own government, collaboration with the PNL in the current coalition formula would become impossible, citing previous decisions of the liberals in this regard.
“The PNL voted for this twice. If the PSD submits the motion of censure and votes the motion against their own government, please, of which they were a part, the PNL will no longer collaborate with the PSD. There were two votes in this regard. I have the claim from the National Liberal Party that it is a serious party and I think it will remain a serious party, therefore, the PNL will no longer be part of this coalition” said Mircea Abrudean.
At the same time, he mentioned that there would be enough votes in the Parliament to support a possible new PSD-AUR majority, but he emphasized that the Romanian president would not support the appointment of a prime minister supported by such a political formula.
We remind you that PSD and AUR have announced joint efforts to submit a motion of censure against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan.
