
He National Election Jury (JNE) This Sunday, October 4, the day of the Regional and Municipal Elections 2026during a ceremony led by its president, Roberto Burneowho performed the symbolic act of ringing the bell. The head of the electoral body affirmed that the institution’s commitment is to the country and to the will expressed by citizens through voting.
“The commitment of the National Election Jury is to Peru and to the will of the citizens and voters. We will fulfill that duty firmly”Burneo said.
During his statement, the president of the JNE also recognized the work of the table members, whom he considered fundamental actors to guarantee that millions of citizens can exercise their right to vote.
“To the board members, my recognition and gratitude. Today you assume a great fundamental responsibility towards your neighbors and your community”he expressed.
Burneo called on citizens, candidates and political organizations to participate in peace and with respect during the elections that take place this Sunday throughout the country. He pointed out that voters will elect the authorities who will lead their regions and municipalities during the next four years.
“Today millions of Peruvians have the right to decide, every vote counts, every vote deserves the same respect. That is the right we are called to protect”he stated.
Likewise, he highlighted the work of the members of the electoral system and pointed out that the JNE will deploy close to 30,000 inspectors in the voting locations at the national level. He specified that the presence of the organization will continue during the voting, the scrutiny and the following stages of the process.
“Our presence will continue during the voting, the counting and the following stages of the electoral process, including the withdrawal of electoral material”he stated.
The head of the JNE urged the institutions in charge of security to adopt the necessary measures throughout the day to protect citizens, board memberselectoral system workers and candidates.
He also asked political organizations and candidates to respect democratic rules and the will of the voters.
“Whoever aspires to govern must respect democratic rules and the will of the voters”he pointed out.
Burneo invited Peruvians to vote freely and responsibly. To those who have not yet decided their vote, he recommended reviewing the candidates’ proposals through the platform Informed Vote.
“What is chosen today has to do with the life of each family, with the needs of their neighborhood and with the future of the community”held.
Finally, the president of the JNE welcomed the presence of international observers during election day and highlighted its contribution to transparency, the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
The ONPE enabled an official platform for voters to consult their voting location, exact address, table number, order number and location map. The recommendation is to carry out the verification before Sunday, October 4, since the assigned location could be modified even on the same day for exceptional reasons. To vote, the citizen must carry their DNI; Passports and other identification documents are not accepted.
The 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections will be held on Sunday, October 4. The tables will receive voters from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, provided they have been installed. Regular and alternate polling station members must arrive at their premises from 6:00 am to participate in the installation and ensure the timely start of election day.
On Sunday, October 4, citizens will vote to elect 13,148 authorities throughout the country. The day will define 25 regional governors, 25 vice governors and 364 regional councilors; in addition to 196 provincial mayors, 1,696 district mayors, 1,724 provincial councilors and 9,118 district councilors.
