THE UNIVERSAL It was also positioned as one of the leading media in trust (61%), only below CNN in Spanish (64%) and Milenio Noticias (62%).
He Reuters Institute details that the trust in the news is in decline; In Mexico 2017, 49% of respondents still trusted the press. However, for the current year, only 31% do so.
The situation is no different globally; This year, “it was reduced by at least five percentage points in 19 countries.” For example, In the United States, only 25% of the population trusts the news. The study maintains that “the global decline reflects concerns that go beyond the media sector,” as trust in institutions and leaders is also low. Furthermore, he explains that the journalism is affected by constant direct attacks by high-profile politicians.
The purpose of the report is to analyze the way news is consumed globally. The study was carried out by YouGovusing an online survey applied from mid-January to the end of February 2026 and with the participation of Mexican academics.
These results reflect continuity with those of past reports, since in 2025 THE UNIVERSAL It was recognized as the most visited Mexican information portal in the country.
In the words of Mario Andrés Dorantes, director of the newspaper’s Platforms, “with this report, EL UNIVERSAL ratifies not only its national reach, but also the quality of its content. We work daily to offer the reader the best possible product.”
