Reuters reports a senior Iranian official. Under the proposal, the war would be over and with a guarantee that Israel and the United States would not attack Iran again. The official also says that Iran has also proposed to discuss its uranium enrichment later, something that Trump desperately wants to stop. However, they demand that the Americans recognize their right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
Trump has repeatedly said that Iran cannot develop or possess nuclear weapons, and he was unhappy with their latest proposal.
“They’re not coming up with an agreement that we need. We’re going to do things properly, we’re not going to leave early and then have problems again in three years,” Trump said at a White House press conference yesterday.
The press conference also discussed whether the president now needs permission from the US Congress to extend the war, but US law says that the president needs the approval of Congress for the continuation of war operations sixty days after the announcement of such an operation was received.
However, Trump believed that he did not need such permission, since the war in Iran had effectively ended when a ceasefire was agreed between the United States and Iran at the beginning of April.
Four weeks have passed since Israel and the United States stopped their attacks on Iran and a two-week ceasefire was announced. However, there is still no agreement to end the war and many countries have felt this.
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz to traffic, but a fifth of all oil is transported through the Strait. Similarly, the Americans have established a military base on the coast of Iran.
