The heads of the political factions decided this Thursday, during their weekly meeting, what will be the last day of work of this legislative period.
Although the closing of work is officially on Thursday, April 30, the decision of the parliamentary spokespersons is that the last sessions will be held on Tuesday April 28, double session, morning and afternoon.
The proposal, endorsed by the different benches, is work double also on Monday the 27th, that is, with a morning session and another in the afternoon.
The agreement of the legislative heads is that, if at that time the election of substitute magistrates of the Third and Constitutional chambers is still pending, rounds of voting would be carried out on those days in the morning.
The head of the governing party, Pilar Cisneros, agreed on the need to make clear when the last plenary sessions will be, because the administration is requesting clarity on when outgoing legislators will leave their offices free to begin preparing the entry of future congressmen.
The president of Congress, Rodrigo Arias, indicated that precisely the idea is that the general management has two days, Wednesday and Thursday, to prepare everything necessary for the May 1 session in which the new deputies will begin their duties.
Furthermore, the head of National Liberation (PLN), Óscar Izquierdo, pointed out that, by holding a double session on those two days, they are replenishing those that would have corresponded to the last two days of the fourth legislature (2025-2026).
In the midst of the construction of that agreement, the independent Gilberth Jiménez called on the faction leaders to set aside at least one session to advance the list of bills related to security issues that are on the agenda.
The ex-liberationist pointed out that there are about 50 files related to these issues and said that they could be processed, even on a Friday.
However, the legislative president indicated that, for this, the list of legal initiatives that could be discussed should first be reviewed.
