Miguel González, a citizen of Swiss origin dedicated to financial activities and who operated the securities firm Firmus Financial Inc.was the person shot to death yesterday morning, Wednesday in Llano Bonito, Juan Díaz district, near the South Corridor.
According to the investigations, González was followed by two vehicles, one of which collided with him from behind and caused the victim’s car to crash into a power line pole, while four men wearing vests and caps similar to those used by the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) got out of the other vehicle and shot him multiple times.
The victim’s vehicle, a gray Kia Sportage, received more than 30 bullet holes, so it is presumed that his attackers used automatic weapons. Local residents reported a large number of explosions.
The investigations reveal that González had lived in Panama for several years and maintained financial advisory activities and his offices were in the Torre Financial Park, located in the Costa del Este sector.
Since yesterday, the authorities were reviewing the surveillance cameras to try to identify his attackers, But so far there is no evidence of the perpetrators of the crime or the motive for the attack.
González is not the first Swiss banker to die or disappear in Panama. In August 1998, Hans Jorg Boch disappeared without a trace. For several years, authorities searched for clues in different parts of the country. In 2001, the remains of a person who was initially identified as Boch were located, but a second DNA test, carried out by Swiss authorities, ruled out that it was his body.
