Deportivo Cuenca fell 2-0 this Thursday in its visit to San Lorenzo on the second date of group D of the Copa Sudamericana.
With goals from Colombian Jhohan Romaña (m.62) and Nicolás Tripichio (m.72), the Argentine team led by Gustavo Álvarez added their first victory and was at the top of the area with four points, one more than their defeated Deportivo Cuenca, Deportivo Recoleta from Paraguay totaled two and Santos from Brazil closes with just one point.
The local team started with a great rhythm and suffocated their rival very high to the point that after nine seconds Alexis Cuello took a shot that went wide of Facundo Ferrero’s far post.
Édison Vega then made double demands on the host goalkeeper, Orlando Gill, who responded on both occasions, while Nicolás Tripichio also responded twice, the first time with a reaction from Ferrero and the second time when he went just wide after an attempted shot.
In the second half, San Lorenzo continued to insist and in the 62nd minute Jhohan Romaña appeared from above to connect with a cross from Matías Reali and head over the resistance of Facundo Ferrero.
The ‘Ciclón’ pushed through this difference and ten minutes later Nicolás Tripichio was the one who took advantage of another assist from Reali to push the ball into the net.
With this victory, leader San Lorenzo now awaits the third day of this group D as leader when they face a needy Santos at home on Tuesday, April 28, the same date that Deportivo Cuenta will visit Recoleta in Asunción.
