The well-known American Democratic Senator, Bernie Sanders, has publicly reacted to the protests against the tourist project planned in the Zvërnec area, describing it as an example of the “global oligarchy”.
Through a post on the social network X, Sanders referred to the protests in Albania against the luxury resort associated with Jared Kushner and his partners from Qatar.
In his response, Sanders writes:
“In tiny Albania, over a hundred thousand people have taken to the streets against an environmentally destructive luxury resort planned by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his billionaire Qatari partners. This is what the global oligarchy looks like, and people are saying NO.”
The American senator accompanied the post with a photo from the protests, emphasizing the civic opposition to the project that has sparked strong debates in Albania about the potential impact on the environment and protected natural areas.
The proposed project in the area of Zvrnec and the Narta lagoon has been the subject of constant discussions between institutions, environmental organizations and local communities. Its opponents argue that the development of a luxury resort in this area could damage the ecosystem and biodiversity of one of the most important natural spaces in the country.
