The board of the Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA) is being urged to move swiftly to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), after the death of former minister and public sector official Ian Pinard, who held the position.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said during a press conference this week that applications for the position had closed. The next step is for the board to review the submissions, identify qualified candidates and conduct interviews.
Skerrit told reporters that following that process, the board is expected to advise the Minister of Tourism, who will then consult with the Prime Minister.
Skerrit said the Government wants the process completed quickly because the country’s ports require clear and stable leadership.
“The port is very important,” he said, stressing the need for the DASPA board to make an early decision.
The Prime Minister did not identify any applicants or provide a deadline for the appointment.
Pinard died suddenly at his home during the early hours of April 17, 2026.
His death marked the end of a public career that spanned elected office, party leadership, and senior administrative roles within Dominica’s state institutions. He was 54.
