Dominica’s government reaffirmed its commitment to investing in the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), citing an estimated US$15 million in direct economic impact from the previous year’s staging.
Speaking on behalf of Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton at a recent press conference, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Claudius Lestrade said the festival’s benefits extend across the local economy.
He identified taxi drivers, guesthouse operators, vendors and small businesses among those earning income from the annual event.
“When WCMF does well, Dominica does well,” Lestrade said.
He said the economic contribution helps explain the government’s continued financial support and its intention to maintain that investment over the long term.
Lestrade also reported that flights operated by United, American Airlines and regional carriers were fully booked for the festival period.
The October 23–25 programme at Windsor Park Sports Stadium featured more than 30 acts across three nights.
Alongside its economic role, Lestrade highlighted the festival’s importance as a platform for Dominican musicians and production crews to work alongside major international performers.
