Civil Aeronautics activated search and rescue (SAR) protocols after lose communication with an aircraft that was covering the route between Condoto and Guaymaral. The plane, at the service of the Colombian Civil Air Patrolhad five people on board, according to the log provided.

The last communication contact with the plane was recorded at 9:23 a.m. m., local time. Authorities later confirmed the activation of an emergency radio beacon in the Cerro Tatamá area, located 33 miles from the Pereira VOR.
