This month brings to theaters in Paraguay the return of ‘Star Wars’ to the big screen, several highly anticipated horror films, the latest in the ‘Mortal Kombat’ saga, among many other premieres.
A month of May begins full of great releases – including the new Star Wars in the cinema and the sequel Mortal Kombat – and productions that propose a variety of genres ranging from action to horror and romance.
These are the main releases that will hit theaters in Paraguay in May:
Mortal Kombat II (Thursday 7)

The highly anticipated sequel to the film adaptation of the fighting video game saga Mortal Kombat which premiered in 2021. In this new installment, the fighters defending the Earth recruit action movie actor Johnny Cage to help them compete in a tournament that could define the fate of the Earth. Karl Urban (The Boys) stars and they repeat their roles from the previous film Lewis Tan, Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee and Hiroyuki Sanada. Direct Simon McQuoid.
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour (Thursday 7)

A music documentary chronicling the world tour Hit Me Hard and Soft of the American singer Billie Eilish. The film was co-directed by Eilish and legendary filmmaker James Cameronwho filmed the concerts with the same technology used in the recent installments of the saga Avatar.
The sheep detectives (Thursday the 14th)

A comedy in which a group of sheep on a farm in Ireland try to solve the mystery surrounding the death of their farmer. Starring by Hugh Jackman (Song Sung Blue) and with the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Thunderbolts), Bryan Cranston (The Phoenician scheme) and Regina Hall (One battle after another). Directed by Kyle Balda (Minions: A Villain is Born).
911: Hellish call (Thursday the 14th)

A horror film seen from the perspective of the body camera of a police officer who, along with his partner, responds to a call for a case of domestic violence. However, both uniformed men become trapped in a supernatural nightmare. With Jaime M. Callica and Sean Rogersondirected by Brandon Christensen.
Volcano: fire underground (Thursday the 14th)

An Icelandic survival drama in which a volcanologist must deal with a potentially devastating volcanic eruption while trying to keep the difficulties of her personal life under control. They star Vigdís Hrefna Pálsdóttir and Pilou Asbæk (game of Thrones) under the direction of Ugla Hauksdóttir.
The Mandalorian and Grogu (Thursday the 21st)

The first film of Star Wars in almost seven years is this continuation of the television series The Mandalorian. After several adventures together, bounty hunter Din Djarin and the powerful infantry Grogu accept a mission to rescue a member of a dangerous mafia family, which puts them in conflict with what remains of the defeated Galactic Empire. Peter Pascal he repeats his leading role in the series and is accompanied by the cast Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and Sigourney Weaver (Avatar: Fire and Ashes). The address is Jon Favreau (The lion king).
Hokum (Thursday 21)

A supernatural horror film in which a writer stays in a hotel and discovers that inexplicable paranormal phenomena occur within its walls. Starring by Adam Scott (Severance) and directed by Damian McCarthy.
Backrooms (Thursday 28)

A feature-length version of the director’s hit web series of the same name Kane Parsonsinspired by the internet urban legend about people who become trapped in sinister alternate dimensions. Parsons directs the film, which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (The old guard 2) and Renate Reinsve (sentimental value).
Obsession (Thursday 28)

A horror thriller in which a man uses a supernatural object to wish his lifelong best friend to fall in love with him. The wish is fulfilled, but it ends up having unexpected and lethal consequences. With Michael Johnston (teen wolf) and Inde Navarrette (Superman & Lois), directed by Curry Barker.
Risk zone (Thursday 28)

A British action thriller in which a group of thieves take advantage of an evacuation in London caused by the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb to carry out a robbery. They star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Extermination: Evolution), Theo James (The monkey), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki) and Sam Worthington (Avatar: Fire and Ashes) under the direction of David Mackenzie (legitimate king).
Emily, where are you? (Thursday 28)
A British romantic comedy in which a young aspiring musician and a psychology student join forces so that the young man finds the girl of his dreams. With Angourie Rice (Mean girls) and Spike Fearn (Alien: Romulus), directed by Alicia MacDonald.
She and her son (Thursday the 28th)

An Iranian drama in which a widowed nurse embarks on a dangerous quest for justice after a tragedy destroys her family. Starring by Parinaz Izadyar and directed by Saeed Roustayi.
Dolly (Thursday 28)

An American horror film in which a woman is kidnapped by a mysterious masked being who wants to raise her as his daughter. Stars Fabianne Therese and directs Rod Blackhurst.
