PARAMARIBO — “I am my father’s biggest fan!” says Charity Misiedjan about her participation in ‘The Voice van Vlaanderen’, together with her father, singer Johan Misiedjan. The fact that he unexpectedly ended up in the Belgian talent show – without an audition – did not really surprise her. “Of course you don’t go to your own blind audition with the thought that your father will also participate, but what is more fun than one Surinamese and Misiedjan in ‘The Voice’? Two Misiedjans! This makes it exciting and unique. It doesn’t get cooler than this,” she sounds enthusiastically in conversation with the True Time.
A special moment for Charity was the performance during the blind auditionwhere she appeared on stage with both parents. “To sing with the two people who gave me my talent is a dream come true. We did this before with the song ‘Kibri Mi’ from my father, but to show it on such a big stage makes it extra special. My year can’t go wrong anymore.”
“Music is my love language”
With her participation in ‘The Voice of Flanders’, the singer mainly wants to share her feelings and music with the world. “The world is already so negative. With music you can make people forget everything, even if it is only for two or three minutes.”
Being on stage and sharing her emotions with the audience is what makes her happiest. She performs in the Netherlands and Belgium and hopes to do so in Suriname one day.
Musical family
Charity has clear goals for the future. She wants to further develop her own identity and profile herself as an artist. “The Misiedjan family is like a puzzle and I am one piece of it. I want to be in contact with the audience, through social media and by releasing covers and my own songs.”
Charity acquired her musicality from home. Father Johan and her mother, gospel singer Xomara Misiedjan, often sang together with the family. “Music was always present at home. I went to performances and sang in church, where I also played the piano. I prefer to do that with my brothers and sisters, because music is my ‘love language’.”
She discovered her passion for music at an early age. “When I was about ten years old, I started writing my own songs. I even made musicals, including scripts and music. During school breaks I gave small performances for my classmates. That creativity has been there from an early age and it still drives me.”
In addition to her musical career, Charity is also ambitious academically. She lives in France and will soon complete her master’s degree in Business Law. She now works there as a lawyer. “In my daily life I combine my two passions: singing and law.”
