British Defense Secretary John Healey resigned on Thursday.
In his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, Healey said the reason for his resignation was to do with defense spending.
According to him, the government is not ready to spend as much as is necessary at a time of increasing risks.
“This new era for defense required further investment through the Defense Investment Plan. The excellent and wide-ranging cross-government work that ended in January, overseen by you, myself and the chancellor, confirmed the scale of the challenge and the growing demands for defence. Since then, you have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources the nation needs to defend the country at this time of growing threats,” the resignation letter said.
He added that without a defense investment plan, he was forced to make decisions that would reduce the readiness of British forces and also make the country less secure.
