KUCHING (April 15): Bangladesh is seeking to formalise cooperation with Sarawak through a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the recruitment of workers, particularly for the state’s development sector.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury said the proposal was discussed during a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here.
“At the same time, we also discussed the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, including skilled and general workers, for various development projects in Sarawak, particularly in the construction sector and other fields.
“We have proposed signing an MoU with Sarawak for this purpose,” he told a press conference after the meeting.
He added that both sides also explored broader cooperation in agriculture, agro-processing and renewable energy, including the possibility of additional MoUs in these sectors.
Also present were Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Regional Office director Datuk Fenny Nuli and Deputy High Commissioner Mosammat Shahanara Monica.
