Atletico humiliated Real: You make us laugh even more than Barcelona
Atletico Madrid have responded sneeringly to their city rival’s bid for striker Julian Alvarez.
Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid confirmed on their website that they are in favor of the Argentine star Julian Alvarez offered 150 million euros. Atletico Madrid, with whom the 26-year-old forward has a valid contract until the end of the 2029/30 season, rejected the offer and mocked the city rival on social media.
The offer fulfills the announcement of the re-elected president of Real, Florentino Perez, that he will offer 150 million euros for one of the stars of world football in the days after the start of his new mandate.
Atletico rejected the offer
It was revealed on Tuesday that it was Julian Alvarez, not French ace Michael Olis, who earns his living at Bayern Munich, as some foreign media had predicted. “Real Madrid announces that, following today’s board meeting, it has sent an offer of 150 million euros to Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez,” they wrote in a short announcement on the royal club’s website.
“Atletico expressed gratitude for the offer we made to them due to the good relations between the two clubs, and rejected it, referring to the player’s buyout clause (€500 million),” added Real.
They replaced education with gratitude
Atlético didn’t have to wait very long for a response. The city rival mockingly rejected the offer, writing that at Real they “exchanged education for gratitude and that they are not grateful to them for anything” and that they are not considering any offer for Alvarez and that they are “of course on good terms with Real, but when you make us laugh even more than Barcelona.”
The Catalan giants have also set themselves the goal of bringing Alvarez this summer, but their offers have also been rejected by Atletico, as reported in Spain in recent weeks.
Alvarez is currently preparing for the World Cup with the Argentine national team. He transferred to Atletico from Manchester City for 75 million euros before the 2024/25 season. This season, he scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 49 games for the red and whites.
