Definitive: the four-time Slovenian football champion fell to the third league
The football club Gorica did not obtain a license for the 2026/27 competitive season, even after the appeal that was considered by the NZS licensing commission. Gorica was left without a license due to failure to meet financial criteria.
The NHS Licensing Commission for Complaints has completed the proceedings initiated by Gorica and Rudar Velenje after the NHS Licensing Commission did not grant them a license for the next season last month due to non-fulfillment of financial obligations. Both clubs appealed the decision.
The miner was granted, but not Gorica
In the case of Rudar from Velenj, the commission then accepted the appeal, with which the people of Velenj obtained a license to continue playing in the 2nd Slovenian football league in the coming season.
In the meantime, the NZS license commission considered the substance and rejected Gorica’s appeal as unfounded, which left it without a license for the next season due to non-fulfillment of financial requirements.
After Domžale, another former champion on the verge of collapse?
After the penultimate, 15th place in the 2nd SNL, Gorica should have been relegated to the third rank of the competition, but the promotion to the 2nd SNL was refused by Videm, who won promotion from the 3rd SNL East based on the results on the pitch. By obtaining a license, the residents of Novogorica could still hope to remain in the 2nd SNL, but the final decision of the NZS licensing commission prevented this.
