The Arima Borough Corporation says it will take steps to address security at municipal police stations following a meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor of Arima Alderman Balliram Maharaj extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley, who was murdered on Sunday morning at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station. He said the loss of life and the theft of arms and ammunition are matters for national attention and called on corporations to ensure the safety of officers.
Mayor Maharaj and Councillor Dave Maharaj, Vice Chairman of the Municipal Police Committee, met with the Senior Engineer of the Arima Borough Corporation and senior officers of the Arima Municipal Police to review security arrangements and procedures at police locations.
During the meeting, officers outlined their needs and raised concerns related to security at the stations. They said measures are required to maintain safety for staff and residents.
Mayor Maharaj said the council will engage the corporation to address the issues raised. He said discussions will take place on the next steps and actions to be taken.
The Arima Borough Council is expected to meet to consider the matters identified during the assessment and to determine a course of action.
Mayor Maharaj said the safety of officers and burgesses remains a priority and that the corporation will continue its review of security at municipal police facilities.
