The state-owned Agency for Public Information (API), on Tuesday, apologised for sending to the media a correspondence saying, “The Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves will host a Press Conference today April 28, 2026 at 12 noon”.
The invitation was sent five months to the day that Godwin Friday was sworn in as prime minister, replacing Gonsalves, who held the post for 25 years.
Shortly after, the API sent out another email, saying it “sincerely apologises for the typing error in the previous email and wishes to indicate that it was a genuine error with malicious intent”.
The initial email was not signed by the one containing the apology for the “genuine error with malicious intent” was signed by Nadia Slater, acting director of the API.
The API then issued a press release-style apology, saying it wanted to “address an error contained in an email circulated to members of the media earlier today, in which an incorrect reference was made of (sic) the former Prime Minister.
“We sincerely apologize for this mistake. The error was purely inadvertent and resulted from an administrative oversight during the preparation of the correspondence. There was NO disrespect, political motive, or malicious intent whatsoever,” the API said.
API said it remains “committed to the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, and accountability in all official communications.
“We acknowledge the importance of ensuring that information issued by the Agency always reflects these standards and sincerely apologize for the human error.
“We regret any misunderstanding or concern caused by this error and thank the public and members of the media for their understanding. Steps are being taken internally to strengthen our review processes to help prevent a recurrence. Once again, we offer our sincere apologies.”
That apology did not include any name in the e-signature, saying only that it was from “Director (Ag.)” of the API.
