Geneva (Switzerland), June 5, 2026 (SPS) – The General Union of Sahrawi Workers organized a solidarity meeting that included several trade union and labor forces from various continents of the world, on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labor Organization.
The meeting was initiated by the Secretary-General of the Union of Saguia El Hamra and Oued Eddahab Workers, Mr. Nafi Ahmed Mohamed, with a presentation about the meeting and its objectives, during which the representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland and to the United Nations institutions in Geneva, Ms. Najat Handi, gave a briefing on the Sahrawi issue, “the path of history and developments,” where she stopped at the current situation of the issue in light of the transformations taking place in today’s world, stressing the insistence of the Sahrawi people to extract their rights. legitimate freedom and independence, calling in the context for the need to intensify and unify efforts in order to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination and independence.
The General Union of Labor presented to the participants a report that includes the role of the Sahrawi labor organization and reviews the aspects of Sahrawi resistance and struggle, especially the issues of workers, human rights, natural resources, and the challenges facing the decolonization of Western Sahara.
The participants in the international meeting appreciated the importance of forums of this level, not only to learn about the reality of the Sahrawi issue, but also to strengthen the basis of union solidarity with the just Sahrawi cause.
National, continental and multipolar unions participated in the meeting, as the workers’ session provided an opportunity to learn closely about the Sahrawi issue and the struggle of its people for freedom and independence.
The General Union of Sahrawi Workers is participating in the 114th session with a delegation headed by the Secretary-General of the Authority, Mr. Nafi Ahmed Mohamed, and including Messrs. Mohamed Salem Hama, the Union’s official for foreign relations, cooperation and communities, and Matt Mahmoud, representing the Sahrawi workers in France. (SPS)
