Geneva, June 5, 2026 (SPS) – The General Union of Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) organized a solidarity meeting with various trade union and labor organizations participating in the 114th Session of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conference currently taking place in Geneva.
The meeting, held at the Palais des Nations on the sidelines of the conference proceedings, was attended by the Polisario Front Representative in Switzerland and to international organizations, Ms. Najat Hendi.
During the gathering, Ms. Hendi presented an overview of the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue in light of recent changes on the international scene. She called for intensified efforts to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise its inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence.
For his part, UGTSARIO Secretary-General Nafei Ahmed Mohamed presented a report on the role of the Sahrawi trade union organization, highlighting the various forms of resistance and struggle undertaken by the Sahrawi people. He focused particularly on issues related to workers’ rights, human rights, and natural resources, describing them as key challenges in the process of decolonizing Western Sahara.
Participants welcomed the initiative and underscored the importance of such high-level meetings, in raising awareness about the Sahrawi cause and for strengthening international trade union solidarity with the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle.
