A court in Argentina has ruled that six people, including two sisters of the football legend Diego Maradona and his lawyer, is to face charges for alleged “fraudulent management” of his trademark.
According to a court ruling obtained by the AFP news agency, the defendants are accused of “defrauding the interests of Maradona’s legitimate heirs”, referring to his five children.
The case concerns the treatment and exploitation of the image and commercial rights of Maradona after his death, who died in 2020 at the age of 60.
The medical team accused of negligence
This is not the only court case related to his death, as there is another case pending simultaneously where his medical team is accused of negligence in connection with his death.
Trials in both cases have attracted a lot of attention in Argentina and elsewhere, as they shed light on the legacy of one of the most famous footballers in history.
