“On April 29, Stanislovas Antanas Jurkus – a member of the council of the first (2000-2002) and second convocation (2002-2007) of the Rietava municipality, a hardworking and active farmer, left our community and went to eternity,” wrote the municipality and remembered his life path.
Stanislovas Antanas Jurkus was born in 1941. February 15 Raised five children. He was a well-known farmer of the Rietava region, who developed a mixed crop and livestock farm, famous for his openness to innovations, active participation in community and professional activities.
He was a member of the initiative group for the protection of farmers’ rights, the founder of the cooperative company “Pieno gëlė”, a long-time member of its board, the chairman of the board of the association “Plungė-Loiret”, a member of the Rietava farmers’ union.
His farm in 2005 in the competition “Metu ūkis” won the 2nd place, and in 2015 was recognized as the most advanced farm of the year and took first place. in 2014 Stanislovas Antanas Jurkus was awarded the medal “For services to the Lithuanian countryside” in recognition of his significant contribution to agriculture and rural development. He regularly participated in festivals, exhibitions, and was actively involved in the activities of farmers’ self-government.
