Bahamian sailor Emanuel John Alexiou rode the waves all the way to a 13th-place finish overall at the 2026 ILCA (International Laser Class Association) Atlantic Coast Championship Regatta, hosted at the Carolina Yacht Club in Charleston, South Carolina, over the weekend.
Alexiou came within reach of a top-10 finish after battling more than 50 sailors in the ILCA 6 fleet.
He placed 13th overall out of 54 sailors in the ILCA 6 Class, with a final gross total of 156 and a net total of 101.
The Bahamian sailor competed through eight races and had his best performance in his final race, where he finished fifth overall in the fleet. His second-best finish came in round three, ending in 12th place.
Leading the ILCA 6 Class to victory was Landon Stahl. He finished first with a net total of 17.
American sailor Leonardo Terzani was second in the fleet. He finished the event with a net score of 21.
American sailor Sander Block rounded out the top three with a net total of 35.
Alexander Montagu took bragging rights in the ILCA 4 Class. He sailed away with a net total of 12.
Marcus Durlach V was second with a final score of 31, and Jack Meade, representing the Southern Yacht Club, came third with 34 points.
American sailor Will Bucker won the ILCA 7 Class with a net score of 13.
Pierce Brindley, representing Big Blue Sailing Academy, took second place with a net total of 29.
Leif Carlson finished third with an identical net score of 29.
As for Alexiou, he will look to use this experience to prepare for the upcoming 2026 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships, scheduled to take place August 11-19 in Aarhus, Denmark.
Locally, the Bahamas Sailing Association (BSA) is preparing to host the 2026 ILCA Open Championships, scheduled for June 20-21 at the Nassau Yacht Club.
