1447 AH, the year of the Saudi global presence and the making of international balances
Concluding the visit of His Highness the Crown Prince to the United States of America
With the curtain coming down on the Hijri year 1447 AH, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enters a new phase in its development and political journey, based on a wide range of achievements that have strengthened its regional and international presence, and established its position as one of the rising powers in the global economy and international decision-making.
The end of the year coincides with the Kingdom approaching the third and final phase of Saudi Vision 2030, which represents the decisive stage in the national transformation project led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the Kingdom is moving towards completing comprehensive development goals, enhancing the sustainability of economic growth, and raising the competitiveness of the Saudi citizen on the global level.
On the international level, the year witnessed a milestone represented by the official visit made by Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the United States, which reflected the strength of Saudi-American relations and the continuation of the strategic partnership between the two countries. During the visit, the Saudi-American summit was held at the White House, where the two sides discussed ways to develop cooperation in the political, security, economic and technical fields.
The visit resulted in the signing of a strategic defense agreement between the two countries, in addition to the launch of a strategic partnership in the field of artificial intelligence, while the Saudi-American Investment Forum witnessed the announcement of agreements and memorandums of understanding worth more than $270 billion, reflecting the extent of international confidence in the Saudi economy and its future prospects.
In parallel, the Kingdom continued to play its active political role in regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, which remained a constant focus in Saudi foreign policy. In this context, Riyadh participated in leading international efforts aimed at pushing towards a just and comprehensive settlement, as Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in partnership with his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot, chaired the work of the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The conference produced a final document that received wide support, while the Kingdom welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the New York Declaration, which stressed the importance of a political solution based on the two-state principle as the most realistic path to achieving peace and stability in the region.
The Kingdom has achieved a series of successes in international organizations and bodies, including winning the presidency of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), membership in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and membership in the Council of the International Maritime Organization, in addition to being unanimously elected as a member of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development.
The year also witnessed Riyadh hosting the twenty-first general conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with the participation of 173 countries. The conference came out with the “Riyadh Declaration,” which called for strengthening international industrial cooperation and supporting the transition towards a more sustainable economy.
As the Kingdom prepares to enter the final phase of Vision 2030, the outcome of the year 1447 AH appears to be an indication of the magnitude of the transformations that the country has witnessed over the past years, and of an ambition that goes beyond achieving development goals to consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a major player in the global economy and an influential partner in shaping the future of the region and the world.
