Adrian Del Castillo hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning and drove in five to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to an 8-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
Arizona went 6-3 on its nine-game road trip against the New York Mets, Philadelphia and Baltimore, winning two of three games on each team.
Jeremiah Jackson homered and drove in three runs for Baltimore, which has lost two straight for the first time since a three-game sweep at Pittsburgh on April 3-5.
After Geraldo Perdomo advanced automatic runner Corbin Carroll to third with a sacrifice lead in the 10th inning, Del Castillo hit a season-long home run off a 2-0 fastball from Tyler Wells (0-1), sending the ball into the center field bleachers. A Nolan Arenado single later in the inning drove in one more run.
Ryan Thompson (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth inning for Arizona. Juan Morillo earned his first save with a scoreless 10th inning.
With the game tied 4-4, Baltimore’s Grant Wolfram allowed a bunt single to Ketel Marte and a double to Carroll leading off the seventh inning. Two batters later, Del Castillo hit a grounder that sailed past Wolfram’s glove, leaving shortstop Gunnar Henderson with a single play at first base and allowing Marte to score.
The Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the inning with Leody Taveras’ RBI single against Kevin Ginkel.
Del Castillo also hit a two-run triple in the third inning that grazed the glove of left fielder Weston Wilson and had originally been ruled an error.
Marte, who was ruled out Tuesday due to back discomfort, went 1-for-5 as Arizona’s designated hitter.
Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez allowed four runs, including Jackson’s two-run homer in the fifth inning, in five innings. He struck out three batters.
Baltimore’s Kyle Bradish pitched a season-high six innings. He allowed four runs and struck out four batters.
