Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-3 Constituency, said that getting a certificate is not the main purpose of education. Students should develop themselves as worthy citizens by acquiring knowledge, ethics and skills.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the farewell ceremony of HSC and degree candidates at the Keraniganj Women’s Degree College ground in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore did not have any major certificates. But their store of knowledge was rich. True education is that which comes for the welfare of people and country. Students should be educated in real education.
He said, only institutional certificate is not enough to survive in the competition in today’s world. Students should prepare themselves by acquiring technical knowledge, creativity and efficiency. Education should be such that it is useful for the welfare of the individual, society and the state.
Criticizing the education system at the event, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that in the last 17 years, the Awami League has turned the education system into a bad state. They had no word fail to increase the pass rate. Talents were not evaluated properly, everyone was passed at average rate.
He further said that the education system was taken to such a state that many of our students’ certificates were not evaluated when they went abroad. After the fall of the Awami League government last year, we saw that the pass rate has decreased.
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said that nowadays a large section of students and parents are more focused on the competition of achieving good results or GPA-5. In this, the issue of acquiring human qualities and skills is being hidden in many cases. He also commented that education cannot be limited to exam results only.
President of Keraniganj Women’s Degree College and Member of Parliament for reserved women’s seat Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury was presided over by local leaders including Dakshin Keraniganj Thana BNP General Secretary Mojadded Ali Babu, Aganagar Union BNP President Arsad Rahman Sapu and Tegharia Union BNP Member Secretary Samiullah. Apart from this, local educationists, teachers of various educational institutions, students and parents participated in the event.
