In the video, check out why the Crystal Palace has set a new milestone in the field of sustainable management of office buildings:
Crystal Palace in BTC City Ljubljana received the DGNB’s gold certificate for sustainable buildings in use and became the first building in Slovenia to receive this recognition. The certification, awarded by the German Association for Sustainable Construction, confirms that the facility achieves high standards of sustainable management, energy efficiency and indoor environment quality almost 15 years after its opening. At the same time, it confirms that the sustainable vision of the facility set at the time was well thought out and sustainable in the long term, as it is completely relevant even in the light of modern sustainability standards.
Superior interior comfort and energy efficiency

With its characteristic shape and glass facade, the Crystal Palace is a recognizable architectural element in this part of Ljubljana. By using high-quality materials in construction and incorporating advanced technological solutions to improve energy efficiency, it has been a symbol of modern architecture and sustainable development since the beginning.
In order to ensure internal comfort, modern technology is installed in the building to prepare air intake of appropriate temperature and humidity, and the glass facade, in addition to an open view, provides an abundance of daylight, which affects well-being and productivity at work.
Some technological solutions, such as the upgrade of the central control system with a cloud solution that enables more efficient management, regulation and adjustment of interior comfort in individual rooms in the building, ice storage for cooling rooms in peak heat loads, the use of rainwater for the cooling needs of the cooling system, or the photovoltaic cells installed in the southern part of the facade for the production of electricity, enable savings in the consumption of electricity, district heating and water from the network.

In addition, the Crystal Palace, with certified electricity and district heating from renewable sources, also enables business partners to significantly reduce their carbon footprint when using rented business premises, which in light of regulatory requirements and ESG reporting is becoming an increasingly important part of business decision-making.
The larger part of the building is dedicated to modern office spaces, which are designed with flexibility in mind to meet the diverse requirements of companies and ensure optimal working conditions, while a smaller part consists of service and retail spaces in the Shopping Gallery, which brings together a selected set of providers.

On the second floor, the facility opens onto a large Green Terrace, a veritable little green oasis above the city, which with its area of 2,500 m2 ideal for a break or socializing of employees and the organization of smaller events. Business events also find their place in the large and bright Congress Hall, equipped with advanced technological equipment, or in the smaller Business Club on the top 20th floor, which, in addition to a refined ambience, also offers a breathtaking view of Ljubljana and the surrounding area.

“The building offers superior interior comfort, many solutions are built into it, which enable efficient use of energy and water. The Crystal Palace also boasts certified electricity and district heating from renewable sources, which enables rental business partners to significantly reduce their carbon footprint when using the rented premises.”

Placement in the multi-purpose urban center BTC City Ljubljana
With its location in a dynamic and unique multifunctional urban center BTC City Ljubljana, which boasts its own park, the Crystal Palace offers its users a modern business environment. A convenient location right next to the Ljubljana ring road and not far from the center of Ljubljana, reachable by as many as five city bus lines, excellent coverage with stations for the sharing of various means of transport, including electric ones, a bicycle garage with an offer of lock boxes and the possibility of using the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles directly next to the building enable accessibility and comfort for all tenants and customers.
The immediate vicinity of the park, where the area is 12,000 m2 planted with more than 260 trees, including fruit trees, offers a pleasant place for a short break in a green environment in the middle of the city in all seasons, and the surrounding culinary offer for all tastes and occasions, including a superb restaurant in the building itself, creates additional opportunities for breaks, socializing and business meetings.

Comprehensive infrastructure and a wide range of a wide variety of programs and services at your fingertips add all the advantages of a “small city”, where users can perform their daily duties in one place, and companies can access other business partners and support services. All of this creates first-class conditions for efficient business, which means that the Crystal Palace remains the first choice for those companies that want to develop their potential in an attractive and innovative business environment, and at the same time, within the framework of their advanced and environmentally responsible business models, they require first-class business premises with internationally established and transparent sustainability certification.

“The result of the certification process confirms that the Crystal Palace maintains high sustainability standards through constant adjustments. As a sustainably managed facility, it also makes a positive contribution to climate protection.”

A sustainable vision of the facility that has stood the test of time
Although the Crystal Palace was created during the challenging period of the financial crisis, which caused an economic stagnation of global proportions, and also caused great upheaval in the real estate sector, the BTC company stood by their decisions and did not seek compromise solutions at the expense of the sustainability of the building. Aware of the correct and far-reaching decisions in the past, the BTC company made the decision to test the comprehensive sustainable contribution of the Crystal Palace, which is also a reflection of the excellent and consistent management of the facility since its official opening in the fall of 2011, in the context of a modern and comprehensive concept of sustainability in the field of commercial real estate. For this, they chose the DGNB certification scheme for buildings in use, which is considered an internationally established certification system for sustainable buildings and is awarded by the German Association for Sustainable Construction.
The DGNB certification scheme is based on a comprehensive concept of sustainability, which means that it equally values the aspects of the environment, people and economics. The certification scheme for buildings already in use also helps to exploit the full potential in introducing improvements in the field of climate action and sustainability in a cost-effective and targeted way.
The result of the certification process confirms that the Crystal Palace receives appropriate adjustments all the time, and as a sustainably managed facility it also makes a positive contribution in the field of climate protection. As a result, it received the DGNB gold certificate for sustainable buildings in use. In addition, the Crystal Palace is also the first building in Slovenia to receive this type of DGNB certificate, i.e. a certificate intended for the assessment of buildings that have already been built and are in use.

The fact that the Crystal Palace received a prestigious and internationally recognized certificate proves that rental business partners are guaranteed the highest level of transparency when it comes to the sustainability of the premises they rent. At the same time, it confirms that the outlined vision of the building, created in a period when sustainability in the field of commercial real estate management was primarily the domain of visionaries, has also successfully passed the test of time.
