US President Donald Trump is frustrated with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and may abandon the so-called Anchorage Accords. This is reported by Axios, citing two officials who attended the G7 summit last week.
According to the interlocutors, during the meeting D. Trump admitted that Ukraine is “doing well” in the war. Now the US president is no longer convinced that Russia can defeat Ukraine.
“Trump has been skeptical of anything to do with Putin and has talked about putting pressure on Russia, but other leaders don’t believe he will actually take any action in that direction,” one of the officials told reporters.
The publication noted that under the so-called “Anchorage Agreements”, the US recognized Russia’s claim to control Donbass in the event of any peace agreement. But Ukraine’s intensified strikes against Russia have prompted Trump to change his assessment of Moscow’s forces.
The publication also added that some analysts still doubt whether the increased strikes against Russia will lead to peace talks. In their opinion, there is a high probability that this will only strengthen the belief that it is necessary to go to war with Ukraine and defeat it.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that during the meeting between US President D. Trump and Russian leader V. Putin in Alaska, which took place on August 15 last year, no agreement was reached regarding Ukraine.
Mr. Rubio noted that an offer has been made in Alaska, but there is no word on any agreements.
