Animal lovers are invited to enjoy a full day of free family activities on Responsible Pet Ownership Day, May 10, at Rex Animal Island in Budapest, the Rex Dog Shelter Foundation, the event’s organizer, told MTI on Monday.
The event, held annually since 2017, aims to raise awareness of the importance of responsible pet ownership through experiential programs. Visitors can meet dogs available for adoption, gain insight into the world of carrier pigeons, and expand their knowledge through animal demonstrations and interactive activities.
Musical performances, concerts, and playful activities await children, while adults can participate in educational presentations. The lineup is further enriched by kennel tours, craft workshops, and the “Cat Café Zoo,”
according to the press release.
The organizers stated that the stage program includes the Majorka Theater’s interactive fairy tale The Salt, as well as a musical medley from the upcoming JÓKUTYÁK musical. A concert by Buborék awaits the youngest visitors, and there will also be raffle drawings and games throughout the day.

Those interested can also attend presentations on topics including dog behavior, the basics of cat and guinea pig care, and the Gazdijogsi program (an educational initiative in Hungary designed to promote responsible pet ownership) will also be introduced. Several animal welfare organizations and professional partners will be present at the event with interactive booths.
The event is free, but admission to the recently opened Kutyaverzoom exhibition requires a ticket. Visitors may bring their dogs, provided the animals are well-socialized and have up-to-date vaccinations.
