Gheorghe Piperea, reaction after the announcement of the joint motion with the social democrats: Let's hope that the embarrassing tango danced by the PSD is over

P.S.D and GOLD announced on Monday, April 27, that they will submit a motion of joint censure against the Government led by Ilia Bolojanfollowing discussions between the managements of the two formations. The initiative is presented by both sides as a technical approach to draft the text of the motion, without existing at this moment negotiations official regarding a possible governing formula after a possible vote in Parliament.

According to representatives P.S.D and AUR, the document is to be finalized and submitted in the next period, most likely after May 4, depending on the parties’ internal calendar.

The reaction of MEP Gheorghe Piperea

AUR MEP Gheorghe Piperea sent a public reaction on the X network, in which he commented on the parliamentary collaboration between PSD and AUR and criticized the way in which the social democrats have so far reported on the opposition’s initiatives.

“A joint censure motion between AUR and PSD is being submitted against Bolojan. Let’s hope that the embarrassing tango danced by PSD is over, which should have voted for at least one of the 5 censure motions submitted so far by AUR, but preferred to ensure Bolojan’s survival in the destruction of the economy and the cohesion of Romanian society. I remain skeptical, but good news is good news. I also hope that PSD does not (be forced to) vote for a Bolojan II government. Come Liberation!”, wrote Piperea on X.

A joint AUR – PSD censure motion is submitted against Bolojan.

Let’s hope, perhaps, that the embarrassing tango danced by the PSD is over, which should have voted for at least one of the 5 censure motions submitted so far by AUR, but preferred to assure Bolojan…

PSD and AUR official positions on the motion

The social democrat Marian Neacșu explained that the collaboration decision is aimed exclusively at drafting the text of the motion, and that the political details will be discussed later in the party’s leadership structures.

“Following several discussions between the leaders of our parties, it was decided that Mr. Perișor Peiu and I (no, the leader of the AUR senators) will deal with the technical part of a joint censure motion. It is an exclusively technical thing. The political approach will probably be explained during this day, by the party presidents. As you know, we have a BPN at 2 p.m. where the final decision will be made,” said Marian Neacșu.

On behalf of the AUR, the leader of the senators Petrișor Peiu confirmed the existence of a joint effort to draft the motion, emphasizing that the political discussions have not yet been held.

“The two parties will have meetings in the leadership forums and you will have reactions, and approaches, and political explanations somewhere this afternoon, for now, in the spirit of transparency, we inform you that we have initiated the technical approach to write that motion,” Peiu said.

He estimated that the motion could be filed after May 4, depending on internal procedures.

“May 1 is Friday, a day off, then come Saturday, Sunday, probably Monday, Tuesday we will submit it (n. ed. motion of censure), I don’t know. So after May 4”, Petrișor Peiu explained.

Regarding possible future governing scenarios, representatives of both parties stated that no discussions have been held in this regard to date.

Marian Neacșu stated that the PSD has a stable decision-making framework and that any developments will depend on the constitutional consultations: “According to the constitutional approaches, there will be discussions initiated by the President of Romania and we will release a solution, a democratic one”.
