A 55-year-old man from Iași was pre-arrested, accused of having stolen luxury goods worth approximately 100,000 euros from the home of a Chinese businessman established in the city.

According to investigators, the robbery took place in March, in broad daylight, after the suspect allegedly waited for the owner to leave home. The victim, Liu Xiao, owns several shops and commercial premises in Iasi.
Prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Iași District Court claim that the man forced the access door with a crowbar and stole money, jewelry and valuables.
“From the investigations carried out so far, it emerged that on March 29, he entered without right, by forcing the access door, into the home of the injured person, causing a damage of 100,000 euros”said Adina Ciobanu, spokesperson of IPJ Iași, according to stirileprotv.ro.
During the robbery, approximately 15,000 lei were allegedly stolen, as well as gold bracelets, watches and necklaces. After committing the act, the suspect would have tried to erase the traces, throwing the tools used in the Bahlui river, located near the house.
The investigators say that the man later fled to Ialomița county, but was identified and detained based on the images captured by surveillance cameras in the area.
The stolen valuables have not yet been recovered, and the police state that the suspect has a criminal record, having previously been convicted of thefts and robberies, including violent acts.
