SAN MARINO – The PSD Management met yesterday evening to evaluate the political, economic and institutional phase of the country. “The overall opinion highlights important results, which strengthen San Marino’s position, alongside critical issues that require more incisive choices. On the Association Agreement with the European Union, the Management expressed full support for the work of the Secretary of State Luca Beccari. The signing of the Agreement must not be seen as a deadline that creates pressure, but as a passage that must be constructed with solidity. It is necessary to continue diplomatic action with determination and maintain the line followed to date. At the same time, it becomes crucial to concretely prepare the country for entry into the single market. In this context, the Management also draws attention to the matter involving the Bulgarian group and the possible start of international arbitration. This is a delicate phase, which requires balance and a sense of responsibility, avoiding it becoming a field for speculation. It is in the country’s interest to preserve its credibility and address each step carefully, in the awareness that these events also require the ability to resolve on an institutional and political level.
The assessment on the placement of foreign debt is very positive. The high level of demand confirms the markets’ confidence in San Marino. The Management underlines how this result is also linked to the intervention of the majority on the latest budget, which gave a clear signal of control of the deficit and sustainability of the public accounts. The reduction in the cost of debt and the improvement of financial conditions free up important resources for the State, amounting to several million. This creates the concrete conditions to achieve a balanced budget as early as next year and, at the same time, to open a new phase: using these resources for investments and structured development policies.
The value of the first naturalization test was highlighted, which represented a moment of high civic sense. This is a step consistent with a law supported with conviction by the PSD, which introduces a more open model on citizenship, based on responsibility and connection with the Republic. Appreciation also for the initiative of the party Secretariat addressed to President Sánchez and the PES, with the proposal to make San Marino a stable space for dialogue, discussion and mediation, strengthening the country’s international profile.
On the topic of the end of life, the Management expresses its desire to face this transition with responsibility and seriousness. The PSD is ready to support the discussion that will open shortly in the Health Commission, aware of the sensitivity of the topic and the need to give clear answers. The Management addressed the serious episode linked to a person convicted of child abuse. It was asked to carefully examine the report of the technical-administrative commission, to evaluate whether the work carried out is sufficient in identifying any responsibilities and in defining effective prevention tools. Urgent and concrete interventions are needed to protect minors. The security that San Marino guarantees represents a fundamental value.
Regarding the functioning of the institutions, the Management highlights the need to make the activity of the Great and General Council more efficient. The excessive use of regulatory tools slows down work and keeps politics distant from those of the economy and society. We need an intervention that improves the effectiveness of council work, with a balance that safeguards the role of controlling the opposition and pluralism.
The Management also expresses a critical assessment of the Government’s action on the development front. The PSD notes a lack of attention on this issue and believes that there is a clear delay in the implementation of the growth agenda. A change of pace is needed. The Management calls for a stronger commitment to schools and training, public administration and the information system. On this last point, he recalls the commitment made by the Government and requests the launch of the legislative project by the competent Secretariat of State.
The PSD supports choices that strengthen the country, but calls for rapid interventions on development, reforms and the functioning of institutions. The stability of government action is measured on these points”, concludes the PSD.
