PARAMARIBO — An inland hunt has turned fatal for one of two hunters who went hunting for game in a forest area near the village of Godo Olo, on the Upper Tapanahony. The victim was accidentally shot by his companion while hunting and died from his injuries. This was reported by police spokesperson Michael Elskamp.
According to initial information, the two men had gone into the forest to hunt pingos. During the hunt things went wrong when one of the hunters fired a shot with a shotgun, hitting the other man. The victim suffered a gunshot wound and died as a result. No details have yet been released about his identity and age.
The case is under investigation by East Detectives. The police will have to determine, among other things, under what circumstances the shot was fired and how exactly the victim was hit. Elskamp indicates that further details about the incident will follow later.
