Through a publication on his X account, President Abelardo De La Espriella explained that The donation seeks to support older adults and contribute to works which, as indicated, require priority attention.
“In an act of gratitude and love for those who helped build the foundations of this country, I donated the entirety of my first basic allowance as President, distributing it among these homes to support our grandparents and implement priority works that are urgently needed,” he said.
The president also pointed out that the delivery is part of a commitment made during the campaign. “This was a sacred promise I made during the campaign and I am going to keep it.: I will not keep my presidential salary. Every month I will go to a region of Colombia to personally give it to a social or charitable cause that transforms lives,” he stated.
In the same message, the president highlighted the contribution of older people to society and stated that the State must respond with actions aimed at guaranteeing them care and dignity. Elsewhere in the post, he stated: “Our old people gave their best years to Colombia. Now Colombia has the duty to respond to them with gratitude, dignity and deeds.”

The first lady, Ana Lucía Pineda also shared information about the day through her social networks. According to his publication, the visit was marked by meetings with families and older adults, in addition to the delivery of materials intended for reconstruction processeswheelchairs and other aids.

The first lady described the day in Quindío as an activity of “solidarity and hope.”
The president closed his message by referring to his visit to Santo Domingo Savio and Consentidos de Jesús. “A country that forgets its grandparents is a country that has no future. On my visit to Quimbaya I arrived at the Santo Domingo Savio and Consentidos de Jesús geriatric homes to look into the eyes of our older adults and remind them of something fundamental: they are not alone. Today they have a President, they have a First Lady and they have a Government that will never abandon them.”he concluded.
