The American tech giant Google has been punished with two fines of a total of 890 million euros – 6.7 billion kroner – for breaking EU rules on digital competition.
This was announced by the EU Commission, which has issued the fines, on Thursday according to AFP.
Google, the world’s largest search engine, has been fined 460 million euros for illegally favoring its own services – such as Google Flights and Google Hotels – in its search results.
In addition, Google will be fined 430 million euros for not allowing app developers to offer users free apps outside of Google’s own app provider, Google Play.
Google does not think the fines are fair, says Google’s head of international affairs, Kent Walker.
