ORDINARY GENERAL MEETING
Naleraq is holding its ordinary general meeting in Nuuk this weekend under the heading “Oqaatsiniit iliuutsinut – from words to action”. The general assembly comes after a historic election for the party, which is today Inatsisartut’s largest opposition party and for the first time also has a member of Parliament elected for the party itself.
The general meeting takes place today, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October. On Saturday, the party’s members meet in Festsalen Pilutaq, while Sunday’s program takes place in Illorput I Nuuk. On Sunday at 17.30, Naleraq will hold a press conference, where the party will present the most important decisions from the general meeting.
A central point will be the presidential election. The current chairman, Pele Broberg, has already announced that he is running again.
– Due to many calls, the great trust in me and the many who hope that I will run again, I have chosen to run again as chairman. I have also informed the main board that I want to do it, says Pele Broberg to Sermitsiaq.
Historic election result
Pele Broberg took over the chairmanship from the now deceased party founder Hans Enoksen in 2022. Naleraq was founded in 2014 by Hans Enoksen after he had left Siumut. The party was established with, among other things, a focus on fishermen and trappers, settlements and outer districts, as well as a faster path towards Greenlandic independence.
In the 2014 election, Naleraq came for the first time in Inatsisartut with three mandates. Since then, the party has grown larger, and in the Inatsisartut election in March 2025, Naleraq got its best election result so far.
The party ended up with eight mandates and thus became the country’s second largest party. Naleraq did not join Naalakkersuisut and is therefore today the largest opposition party in Inatsisartut.
The party’s progress has also become evident on the Danish political scene. At the general election in March 2026, Naleraq won for the first time one of Greenland’s two mandates in the Folketing. Qarsoq Høegh-Dam thus became the first member of parliament elected for Naleraq.

Naleraq’s former member of parliament Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam, who was originally elected for Siumut in 2022, chose not to stand again for the general election in 2026. She had instead chosen to focus on her mandate in Inatsisartut, where she ran for Naleraq in the 2025 election.
Broberg will continue as chairman
Thus, Naleraq goes into this weekend’s general meeting with a stronger position than ever before. From a new party with three mandates in 2014, Naleraq today stands with eight mandates in Inatsisartut, a place in the Folketing and a central role as the opposition’s largest party.
According to the list of participants, over 50 people are registered as participants at the general meeting. Among them are Pele Broberg, deputy chairman Jens NapãtôK’, members of the main board as well as representatives from local branches, municipalities, settlements and the party’s youth organization Naleqqat.
Naleraq’s last ordinary general meeting was held in June 2023, where Pele Broberg was re-elected as chairman.
The headline for this year’s general meeting – “From words to action” – will also be a question of how Naleraq will translate the historic voter support into concrete policy.
At the press conference in Illorput on Sunday at 5.30 p.m., the party will inform about the general meeting’s most important decisions.
